Juliana Kanyomozi, popularly known by the mononym Juliana, is a Ugandan female musician, actress, and en- tertainer. She was born in Uganda on 27 November 1982. She attended Namasagali College in Kamuli District, for her high school education.
Juliana rose to fame in the late 1990s as one half of the all- girl duo I-Jay, with Iryn Namubiru. The group’s single titled Vive la Vie was a popular record on Ugandan radio stations at that time. After the duo disbanded, Juliana launched a solo career.
Kanyomozi has also collaborated with Bobi Wine on songs such as: “Taata Wa Baana Yaani?” (Who is the Fa- ther of the Kids?) and “Maama Mbiire”. She worked with Sweet Kid on the track “Sirinaayo Mulala” (I don’t have anyone else) and with Klear Kut on the song “All I Wanna Know”. At one time, Juliana hosted a morn- ing radio program on Capital FM Radio in Kampala, the capital of Uganda and the largest city in that country.
More recently, she has performed with Tanzanian artist, Bushoke on “Usiende Mbali” (Do not go far). She has won and been nominated for numerous music awards such as the prestigious HiPipo Music Awards, PAM, Kisima and Befta among others. In 2008, Juliana was voted “Uganda’s Fashion Icon”. Juliana Kanyomozi was the first female musician to win the Pearl of Africa Music Awards (PAM Awards) ‘Artist of the Year’ accolade. In 2008, she made her film debut in Henry Ssali’s Ki- wani: The Movie. She still holds the record of having won the Artist of the year award for the two consecu- tive years 2008 and 2009. In 2009, she was one of the three judges at the Tusker Project Fame, an East African talent show. Also in 2009, she worked on her new al- bum, which includes the single “Kantambule”. In March 2014, she signed with international Cosmetics Company Oriflame to be one of their East African brand ambassadors together with Lady JayDee of Tanzania and Jamila Mbugua of Kenya.
Juliana Kanyomozi is a cousin to King Oyo, the reign- ing Omukama of Toro, in Western Uganda and sister to actress Laura Kahunde. Juliana’s father and King Oyo’s father were biological brothers. She is single. She was the mother of a son, Keron Raphael Kabugo, who died on 20 July 2014. The father was her one time boyfriend Amon Lukwago, a Ugandan businessman. In 2006, she had a temporary romantic relationship with US-based Ugandan boxer Kassim Ouma. Juliana has won numerous awards at the prestigious HiPipo Music Awards (HMA) and Pearl Of Africa Music Awards.
